The Institute for Government is pleased to bring to your attention the following event hosted by the Better Government Initiative.
Good Government – a Mid-Term Review An event to mark the launch of a new report
Wednesday 14th November 2012, 18:00 – 19:30
Followed by a drinks reception
Institute for Government, 2 Carlton Gardens, London SW1Y 5AA
The report will be introduced by Lord Butler and Sir Richard Mottram and the discussion will be led by Stephen Dorrell MP and Natascha Engel MP.
In a time of austerity it is more important than ever that public policy is well founded and effectively delivered. In “Good Government” in January 2010, the Better Government Initiative examined some of the key failings of government processes and made extensive recommendations for change. In this mid-term review they have revisited their earlier report to assess how the coalition government has responded to the earlier recommendations and make new proposals to recognise developments, positive and negative, since the change of government.
The report deals with government in its widest sense including both the Executive and its relationship with Parliament. Among its key recommendations is a proposal that Parliament and Government should agree a set of standards to ensure that legislation is fit for purpose when it is introduced.
Copies of “Good Government – a Mid Term Review” will be available from the BGI website – www.bettergovernmentinitiative.co.uk – from 13 November 2012.
